INTRODUCING THE ORGANISING TEAM!

SHAELYN
Hi, I'm Shaelyn and I'm a Y2 DDP CS-Biz student!! One fun fact about myself is that I have a very low caffeine tolerance and drinking a bit of coffee in the day will keep me awake till 6/7am... I have been into volunteering since secondary school where I started my own project with some friends in partnership with CDAC to help less financially-advantaged kindergarten children. In JC, I took over my senior's project and worked in collaboration with a children's home. Now in university, SOG gave me the opportunity to continue being involved in the volunteering scene, and I am in charge of the volunteering activities in NUS Dance Synergy as well. Our project: Volunteers United, means a great deal to me as my experiences in volunteering have been eye-opening and humbling; I wish that other NUS students will also be more acquainted with the volunteering scene and give back to society when they can. It is always a fulfilling journey to understand what goes on in the community at large, and how one seemingly insignificant individual can play a part to make a change in the world around him.
HARRIZ
Hi there! My name's Harriz and I'm currently a Y2 Mechanical Engineering student in NUS. I'm one of the members here in Volunteers United, where we aim to link up eager students with a passion to help and volunteer, with organisations that speak the most to them!
I personally believe as a youth, we should always look for ways to give back to the community that raised us while we were young and needed help. Seeing the impact we can make on another person's life, however big or small, is a feeling I hope everyone can feel as it truly enriches oneself and raises up the communities we call home. I am lucky enough to be working with the team here at Volunteers United who share the same views as me, and I hope this platform stands to benefit you guys who want to give back to the community in any way you guys can!

WHITNEY
I'm a Y2 Engineering Science with Management major. Although I wouldn’t consider myself as a regular volunteer, I do find joy in volunteering and seek out opportunities to contribute back to our community. Amongst my volunteering experiences, OCIPs are the ones that are exceptionally memorable. By interacting with people from the different communities in countries like Cambodia and Indonesia, provided me with learnings that I can carry over to serve our own community.
This project, to me, is an effort to promote and to raise awareness in volunteering. Perhaps, in the current situation, the volunteering scene is a little quiet, however it’s an opportunity for us to find out more before stepping back in to volunteer our time for a cause that we hold close to heart.
AMOS
As a life sciences major and prospective veterinary medicine student, I have always felt very strongly about the protection of animals and their welfare. This passion drove me to volunteer at an animal shelter, where I got the opportunity to work with the innumerable number of vulnerable strays that are homed there. I found the work to be extremely fulfilling, as not only was I able to enrich the animals’ lives at the shelter, but I even got to help some of them find new forever homes. My goal for this project is to simply help others to find something that they believe in, and hopefully inspire them to strive to make a change.

JO
Hi! I am a year 2 DDP in CNM & Biz.
One fun fact about me is that I play ice hockey! This project is important to me as I think everyone should have a platform to easily be able to find places to volunteer according to the kind of field they wish to help out in!
I've volunteered at Tamar Village, a place that rehabilitates and builds up families that are involved in the red light district and it was really an eye-opening experience that taught me so much!
RONALD
Hi! I am Ronald, currently a Year 2 from Engineering Science. My volunteering experience has been mostly as a participant, such as free tuition for underprivileged kids and street sales to raise awareness. I have also been part of the organizing team for some events, such as a OCIP to Myanmar and helping to raise awareness and funds for a local organization, Food From the Heart. However, this project has been a different take on volunteering, as it is interesting to develop a way to link potential volunteers to partner organizations.

NICOLE
Hello! I'm Nicole, a Year 2 English Language major. I wouldn't say I'm the most active volunteer but I've done volunteering throughout my secondary school days, and most actively when I was in JC. I had the opportunity to tutor children from lower income households and was struck by how much privilege we have. I really enjoyed my time tutoring and I have continued teaching since then. After entering university, I was caught up in so many things. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic happened and I realised there was a need more than ever to reach out to those who were less fortunate. This is why I've decided to join Volunteers United, so that we can efficiently direct resources and volunteers to where help is needed most!
DIVAKAR
Hi! I am Divakar, Year 2 Computer Science major. I have taken part in many volunteering projects. I worked with MWC during JC. We learnt about the migrant worker struggles and helped with the handling of hotline. After entering NUS, I was staying at Eusoff hall and we had tie-ups with Salvation Army. We worked together with them for tutoring students who needed help. Overall, my volunteering journey has been a very fulfilling one and has made me learn a lot of stuff. Volunteer United is something I believe in wholeheartedly. Having volunteered for a while now, I believe this is an experience everyone must get. Volunteer United does exactly that. As a volunteer, you not only help someone else, you also gain a lot out of it yourself. Hope to see all of you volunteering soon!
